A Certified contractor passed the state exam and may work anywhere in Florida. A Registered contractor holds a local certificate of competency and may only work in the jurisdictions that issued it. Within those, the General class covers structures of any height, the Building class is limited to three stories, and the Residential class to one- and two-family homes of two stories or less. For a high-rise condo in Naples only a General contractor can be the contractor of record, which is the license we hold.
Five questions settle most of it: Who pulls the permit and under whose license? Who is on site every day and how do I reach them?
